STELCO has decided to recover the costs incurred to restore power from any parties whose road excavation works damage cables in the electricity grid, resulting in power outages.

In a post on social media today, STELCO stated that citizens are facing numerous hardships and difficulties due to power service interruptions caused by damage to the company's electricity grid cables during various road excavation works.

"Since such incidents are increasing day by day, if such an event occurs due to the negligence of parties carrying out road excavation work, this company has decided to hold those parties accountable and recover the costs incurred to resolve the issue and restore service from them," STELCO said.

STELCO stated that this decision was made with the aim of saving the general public from the difficulties and inconveniences caused by power interruptions and ensuring the sustainable provision of quality service.

STELCO has urged all parties carrying out road excavation work to plan and execute their work responsibly without causing damage to the company's power grid.

Power cuts frequently occur in Malé and Hulhumalé due to cable damage during road excavations, causing difficulties for the public. Power was cut in Hulhumalé last Thursday night as well as Monday night due to damage to power cables caused by parties excavating roads for construction.
