Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has stated that the government will provide full assistance to elevate private security services to more professional standards.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Safety and Security Conference Maldives 2026 held at Barceló Nasandhura, organized by the Maldives Association of Fire Security and Safety Industry (MAFSI), the Minister noted that security personnel are the first responders during emergency incidents and play a vital role in the national security and safety framework.

The Minister stated that to advance the security sector, employees must be provided with robust training, and sound standards and professional codes of ethics must be established to assess competency.

The Minister emphasized that a system should be established to grant appropriate certifications to individuals working in the private security sector, creating opportunities for them to build their careers.

"Today, I give you (MAFSI) [the assurance] that we (the Ministry of Homeland Security) will assist in this," the Minister said.

The Minister highlighted the importance of gaining public trust in the private security sector. In particular, he noted that security officers working in the tourism industry should not be viewed merely as individuals standing guard by a door, but as professionals who thoroughly understand emergency procedures and emergency response.
