President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent a message of condolence to Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul following the severe damage caused by heavy rains and flooding in the country.

The President's Office stated today that in his message, the President expressed his profound sympathies over the deaths, displacement of many people, and extensive damage caused by the flooding in Thailand.

The President's Office noted that on behalf of the government and people of the Maldives, the President extended condolences to the Prime Minister, government, and people of Thailand, particularly to the families of those who lost their lives in incidents such as electrocution and drowning.

Furthermore, he wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident and expressed hope that ongoing relief efforts to overcome this disaster would proceed smoothly and bring prompt relief to those in need.

Heavy rains and flooding in Thailand have resulted in eight deaths so far, affecting the lives of many. According to the country's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, more than 500,000 homes across 27 provinces—excluding the capital, Bangkok—have been damaged, impacting the lives of 1.7 million people.

With over 50,000 homes damaged in Bangkok, the city's governor, Chadchart Sittipunt, has declared Bangkok a disaster zone.
