Police have stated that legal action will be taken against individuals who cross the barricades placed to close the walkway at the airport end of the Sinamalé Bridge and travel on foot to Hulhumalé and Hulhulé.

In a post on X last night, police stated that the bridge walkway in that section has been closed to reduce potential serious accidents in the area surrounding the Sinamalé Bridge, Hulhulé, and the highway traffic light junction. However, police noted that it has been observed that some individuals have been removing or crossing the barricades in that area and traveling on foot.

Walking to the airport and Hulhumalé from that side of the bridge has been prohibited since the day the bridge was first opened. A special barricade has also been erected in the area to inform the public of this rule.

The Sinamalé Bridge walkway is a popular route where many people go daily to relax and walk for exercise.
