President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the Maldives’ close relationship with China as a strong bridge to opportunities and prosperity as the country works towards becoming a developed nation by 2040.

Speaking at a reception held to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the Mid-Autumn Festival, President Dr Muizzu conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Government and people on behalf of the Maldivian Government and people.

He said the friendship between the two countries extends beyond diplomatic ties and has a direct impact on the lives of Maldivians. He highlighted the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, major housing projects and economic benefits arising from the Free Trade Agreement as examples of the partnership.

President Dr Muizzu said the Friendship Bridge is more than an infrastructure project, describing it as a means of connecting people, communities and nations.

He also stressed the importance of cooperation and dialogue among countries in addressing global economic and environmental challenges, while expressing appreciation for China’s continued support for the Maldives’ economic and social development.
