Police revealed today that while the fire at the Green Building complex—which housed three ministries—spread and also affected the "Pink Building" where part of the Malé City Council was operating, only the building that housed the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy was insured.

Speaking at a press conference held today, Head of Major Crime Investigation Superintendent of Police Abdulla Rasheed stated that three ministries and the Malé City Council office sustained heavy damages in the incident, with the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Construction completely burned down.

"Out of the three government buildings damaged in the fire, only the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy was insured," Abdulla Rasheed noted.

Abdulla Rasheed further stated that the fire also caused varying degrees of damage to nine apartments across three nearby residential houses, as well as a local shop.

Police today released CCTV footage detailing how the fire broke out at the Green Building complex, showing that the fire initially started in the building's electrical wiring.

According to police, the fire at the Green Building was brought under control around 12:45 PM that day and was fully extinguished by 3:30 PM.
