Police have today released comprehensive CCTV footage and details regarding the fire that broke out at the Green Building, which previously housed three ministries.

The fire at the Green Building occurred on the morning of December 12, 2024.

According to video footage shared during a press conference held by police at Iskandharu Koshi today, power to the Green Building was cut off prior to the outbreak of the fire—specifically at 5:33 AM that morning. Approximately 45 minutes later, at 6:13 AM, electrical wires between the ground floor and the first floor caught fire, prompting the building's foreign security guard to take action.

The video shows the guard attempting to contact various individuals and seeking assistance from an off-duty police officer who was passing by at the time. Through their efforts, the initial fire on the wires was extinguished, though thick smoke continued to billow out.

Shortly afterward, MNDF firefighters arrived and began operating on the building's floors. The fire flared up more significantly while the firefighters were inside the building.

During the press conference, Superintendent of Police Abdulla Rasheed, Head of Major Crime Investigation, stated that because CCTV cameras completely surround the Green Building, it would be impossible for anyone to enter the area undetected.

Police stated that the fire at the Green Building was brought under control at around 12:45 PM that day and was fully extinguished by 3:30 PM.
