Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said he supports foreign investment and large-scale development projects, but questioned plans to develop the proposed $20 billion Rasmalé project in the Malé area.

Speaking at a press conference, Nasheed said projects of this scale could further concentrate development in the capital region and affect other islands.

Nasheed said discussions on the project had also taken place during the first MDP administration, when he was President.

He said foreign investment is important for creating business opportunities, improving living conditions and supporting economic growth in the Maldives.
