As part of the ongoing repair work on Malé's Ameenee Magu, asphalt paving in two layers on the first segment was completed this morning.

This project is being carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

According to MTCC, the company began asphalt paving work on the first segment last Saturday. After laying the second layer of asphalt yesterday, MTCC confirmed that the paving work for that segment was fully wrapped up this morning.

MTCC noted that with the paving complete, the area will next undergo line marking and other final finishing works to facilitate road users.

MTCC was contracted to repair and redevelop the damaged areas of Ameenee Magu in June of this year. Under this project, the roadworks are being carried out in separate segments. Segment 1, which has just been paved, spans from the former Voice of Maldives area (via Izzuddheen Magu) up to the Dharumavantha Hospital parking area. Segment 2 involves developing the road with asphalt paving from Izzuddheen Magu up to Giyasuddin School.

The 1.79-kilometer stretch of Ameenee Magu—which was originally completed by the previous administration in January 2024 at a cost of MVR 84.4 million—had subsequently suffered severe damage, with asphalt lifting in several areas. The western side of the road in particular deteriorated significantly; experts have noted that this damage was caused by heavy vehicles driving on the road before the newly laid asphalt had fully cured
