Health Minister Geela Ali has stated that female police officers are one of the most vital pillars of law enforcement and internal security.

The Minister made these remarks while speaking at a special forum held yesterday at Dusit D2 Feydhoo Maldives to mark Women in Policing Day.

The Minister noted that women are achieving historic progress within the police service, pointing out that when the police service was established as a civilian law enforcement agency in 2004, there were only 64 female police officers. However, she highlighted that today this number has multiplied many times over, serving as clear evidence of society's reliance on the service of female police officers.

"Looking back at the history of the police service, I emphasize that you are one of the most vital pillars of this service. In 2004, when the Maldives Police Service was established as a civilian law enforcement agency, only 64 female officers were employed within the ranks. Yet, the fact that this number has multiplied many times today is a symbol demonstrating how much society needs you," the Minister said.

The Minister stated that targeted training programs and robust policies formulated for women are driving an ongoing increase in the number of women interested in the policing sector. She added that the positive results of female officers leading the way in confronting dangerous situations, strengthening community relations, resolving sensitive issues, and excelling in technical fields amidst modern changes are visible to the entire country.

The Minister also noted that the steadfastness shown by female police officers in balancing the heavy responsibilities of maintaining internal security alongside domestic family duties as mothers, sisters, or grandmothers is a sacrifice that makes the entire society proud.
