The Maldives and Kenya have signed an agreement to further strengthen and enhance diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement was signed yesterday in New York, USA, on the sidelines of the ongoing 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of the Maldivian government. The Kenyan government was represented by Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry stated that this agreement will pave the way for regular consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries and enable closer cooperation in areas of mutual importance.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Kenya were established on October 23, 1995.
