The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published the names of 33 parties that have failed to pay taxes in accordance with notices issued by MIRA specifying the required tax amounts.

These parties consist of individuals and entities with unpaid tax arrears exceeding MVR 1 million.

Among those named are former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) President Bassam Adeel Jaleel, who has been banned for life by FIFA and is currently serving a 32-year prison sentence in a corruption case, and former comedian Yusoof Rafeeu (Yusey), alongside several well-known private companies.

MIRA stated that this decision was made under the "Regulation on Publishing the Names of Persons Who Fail to Submit Tax Returns or Pay Taxes." Before publishing their information, the parties were notified via phone calls and SMS messages, and the legal penalties and enforcement actions applicable to tax defaulters were clearly communicated to them.

The authority emphasized that additional enforcement measures will continue to be taken without discrimination to recover unpaid state taxes. MIRA has urged those who have not submitted tax returns to do so without delay and instructed all defaulters to promptly settle their payments.

According to last month's financial report, MIRA collected MVR 497 million last month alone through ongoing efforts to recover funds owed to the state.
