Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has stated that the government's goal is to complete and open the construction work of 154 police stations by the end of 2027.

The Commissioner made these remarks while meeting with staff working at the Gafaru Police Station during his visit to the island yesterday.

The Commissioner stated that the construction work of the police station currently being built in Gafaru is progressing at a good pace. He also noted that out of the 154 police station construction projects across the islands, those where work has stalled are being handed over to state-owned companies.

"Our goal is to complete and open all stations by the end of 2027. The purpose of this is to bring an end to operating police stations within island council offices and private houses," the Commissioner said.

During the meeting, the Commissioner stated that once the Gafaru Police Station's construction is completed, the number of police personnel working on the island will be increased in alignment with the station's capacity.

Emphasizing that the leadership closely monitors the issues faced by police officers working in the islands, the Commissioner noted that the number of staff working at a station is not a criterion the leadership uses when deciding to visit.

"Today here in Gafaru, members of our team will outnumber the officers stationed here. Therefore, whether there are two or three officers, it doesn't matter to the leadership; what is important is coming, meeting, and visiting them," said the Commissioner.

The Commissioner also stated that even while based in Malé, information regarding events across the atolls is closely monitored daily, with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner directly involving themselves to ascertain details.
