A 20-year-old man injured in a motorcycle racing accident in Laamu Gaam has been brought to Malé for further treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Police said they received information at around 10am yesterday that a rider had lost control of a motorcycle and fallen into the sea during a race.

The accident occurred during the “Raas Championship 2026 – Laamu Edition” held in Gaam yesterday.

The injured rider initially received treatment at Gaafu Dhaalu Regional Hospital before being transferred to Malé.

An IGMH media officer told One that the man is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is on a ventilator. Further details about his injuries have not been disclosed.

Images circulating online show the motorcycle to be severely damaged following the accident.
