Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that there are no difficulties in purchasing essential food items, oil, and gas.

While USD 150 million has been paid for the T-bills taken from India, some political figures have been claiming that there is no money in the country to buy essential food items.

Responding to this in a video message published on X tonight, Minister Saeed said that with the recent USD 50 million loan payment made by the government, President Dr. Muizzu's administration has so far settled a total of USD 1.34 billion in debt and rescued the country's economy from a dangerous abyss.

Minister Saeed stated that there are those who wish ill upon the country and that these parties are attempting to create fear in the hearts of the public.

"Staple food won't be available, gas won't be available, fuel won't be available, essential goods won't be purchasable. These are things these people say to create fear in the hearts of the public and destroy market confidence. I assure you, God willing, there are no obstacles whatsoever to purchasing any essential items, staple foods, or gas," Saeed said.

Saeed noted that while some parties are calling for tourists not to come to the Maldives, the harm from such actions will affect all citizens.

"This is not the sort of thing done in any democracy," the Minister said.

The Minister further stated that with the visionary steps being taken by President Dr. Muizzu, the economic situation will improve and the foreign exchange (dollar) issue will also be resolved.
