The Criminal Court has sentenced a man to seven years in prison for exposing a child to a sexual act.

The sentence in this case was handed down against a man named Ahmed Naeem.

Under the Act on Special Provisions for Dealing with Child Sexual Abusers, the State brought three charges against him, which included the charge of exposing a child to a sexual act. The remaining charges consisted of two counts of grooming a child for the purpose of sexual abuse.

However, the Criminal Court ruled that the two counts of child grooming were not proven to the court beyond a reasonable doubt, as stipulated under Article 51(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of the Maldives.
