The Addu City Feydhoo Magistrate Court has sentenced a man to 12 years, 5 months, and 16 days in prison for diamorphine trafficking.
The sentence was handed down against Mohamed Mirusadh of Helegele, S. Feydhoo.
The State prosecuted him for diamorphine trafficking after diamorphine was found inside a shoulder bag he was carrying when he was stopped and searched near the Meedhoo harbor during a police operation, which was launched following intelligence that narcotics were being smuggled into Dhaalu Atoll Meedhoo.
Although Mirusadh initially denied the charges, he subsequently entered into a plea agreement with the State.
Consequently, the court found him guilty of diamorphine trafficking and delivered the prison sentence. Additionally, the ruling ordered him to pay a fine of MVR 50,000 within a period of 12 months to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
