Malaysia has decided to provide USD 100 million in loan assistance to the Maldives.

Speaking at a press statement held at the President's Office today during his ongoing visit to the Maldives, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that, in response to a request by the Maldives, USD 100 million in loan assistance will be extended to the Maldives' central bank, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), through Malaysia's central bank.

Prime Minister Anwar stated that he has requested the administrative procedures for the arrangement to be expedited collaboratively by the two central banks.

"Such agreements are reached because of friendship and trust," Prime Minister Anwar said.

Prime Minister Anwar also noted that favorable changes will be introduced regarding the importation of fuel to the Maldives through Malaysia.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated that efforts will be made to establish more convenient arrangements for Maldivians living in Malaysia, alongside creating additional opportunities within the education sector.
