\President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that personal striving and spiritual discipline (jihad of the self) must be undertaken to achieve the objectives of Islamic Shariah.

Speaking at the official ceremony held last night to mark the 900th anniversary of the Maldives embracing Islam, the President noted that the occasion is a day of immense celebration. He highlighted the honorable joy of Maldivian ancestors transitioning from spiritual wretchedness to salvation in this world and the hereafter, alongside the dignified milestone of spending 900 years as a hundred percent Islamic nation.

Reflecting on history, while acknowledging the profound fortune bestowed upon Maldivians, the President pointed out that observing the present situation reveals unhealed scars forming in various aspects of society. In particular, he stated that the influences reaching young hearts, eyes, and ears amid the currents of a globalized world are sounding alarming bells for the spirit of faith, demanding special attention.

Focusing on the future, the President emphasized that personal discipline and inner struggle are required to fulfill the true aims of Islamic Shariah. He added that all parties must unite to formulate clear visions and implement practical measures for the collective safety of the nation, noting that noble sacrifices must be made toward this end.

The President urged citizens to always remember that Islam is the greatest blessing ever bestowed upon Maldivians. His counsel was for every Maldivian citizen to strive earnestly to secure happiness in both this world and the hereafter through firm faith in the heart and righteous actions in daily life.
