Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said that the research that needs to be done to bring battery powered electric mini-buses to operate in Male’ City has been completed and tenders will be opening soon.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the COO of MTCC, Shahid Hussain said that research for mini-bus service has been completed and passes on to the Transport Ministry. And so, the plan is to charge the vehicles in Hulhumale’ and use them in Male’ City.
Shahid said that the Transport Ministry is going to open tenders to bring vehicles appropriate for the city.
He said that electric buses are going to be utilized to operate environmentally friendly vehicles for public transportation. The buses will be 20 feet long with a capacity of 16-20 people.
MTCC was contracted this February to operate a mini-bus service in Male’ City. Under the contract, the service has to begin within four months. Introducing mini-bus public transportation in Male’ City is part of the government’s 100-day pledge.
