Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Heena Waleed has secured the presidency of the People’s National Congress (PNC) Women’s Wing after no other candidate contested the position.

The PNC announced the candidates for its Supreme Council elections, scheduled for September 15–18, last night. Positions with only one candidate have been secured without a vote.

Aminath Hussain Shareef has secured the Women’s Wing vice-presidency, while Aminath Naasiha and Aminath Shizleen have secured the secretary and treasurer positions, respectively.

The Youth Wing will be led by Ibrahim Abaan Abdulla Latheef, with Hassan Shaheed as vice-president, Ismail Azmy as secretary and Mohamed Rifau as treasurer.

Eight candidates are contesting six PNC vice-president positions. They are Youth Minister Abdulla Rauf, former government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), Maafannu Medhu MP Asma Rasheed, Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Saudha, Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujaau, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, LGA CEO Mohamed Nimaal and Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.

The PNC said six current vice-presidents will continue to serve, while Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and PG Group Leader Ibrahim Falah will also be included among the party’s vice-presidents.

A total of 22 candidates are contesting 10 women’s council positions, 13 are contesting seven youth positions, and 73 are contesting 18 general council positions.

Candidates may withdraw their names by midnight on September 15, according to the PNC.
