HA. Utheemu Council has announced the final list of 31 people selected to receive 2,000-square-foot plots in the island.

The council opened applications for the 31 plots in July last year, with 71 applicants meeting the eligibility requirements by the August 10 deadline.

Three applicants topped the list with 70 points each, while four people received plots with the lowest score of 53 points. As several applicants scored the same points, the four recipients were selected through a draw.

The allocation was open to people from other islands who reside in Utheemu. However, applicants originally from Utheemu receive additional points under the criteria, along with people over 25, those with more children and applicants with children requiring special assistance.

Under the criteria, applicants are ineligible if they own a plot larger than 600 square feet, have received a housing unit through a government project, or if their spouse owns a plot larger than 600 square feet on any island.
