PNC Chairperson and Speaker of the People's Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has launched a scathing attack on former President Abdulla Yameen over his close association with figures like his former Vice President and lead legal counsel, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
Speaking at a rally held at the PNC party hall last night, Abdul Raheem revealed that it was Yameen himself who personally pushed for Dr. Jameel’s removal from the vice presidency.
Abdul Raheem stated that Yameen accused Jameel of plotting a coup during the May Day protests, but noted that he was the one who asked Yameen to provide proof before taking action.
"I told him we would only vote to remove the Vice President if he provided details. When asked for details, he brought out a stack of papers, showed them to us, and claimed Jameel had plotted a coup against him on May Day from a resort. And today, that very same Jameel is standing right beside him nodding along. Every time Yameen speaks until his throat goes dry, Jameel just nods," Abdul Raheem said.
Abdul Raheem remarked that neither he nor MP Falah are short of people willing to listen to them, whereas nobody is interested in listening to Yameen when he stands alongside figures like Jameel and former Technology Minister Maleeh.
"Nobody in this country accepts those people (Maleeh and Jameel). But what can you do? A person hangs around whoever suits them," Abdul Raheem said.
Abdul Raheem further added that Yameen knows no magic spell capable of driving a wedge through the PNC, reiterating that Yameen’s administration ultimately collapsed due to his own arrogance and the plundering of the state treasury.
