Dr. Ahmed Riyaz has been appointed to the post of Chief Statistician of the National Bureau of Statistics.

The Maldives Bureau of Statistics stated that under the Maldives Statistics Act, Dr. Ahmed Riyaz was appointed as Chief Statistician effective August 23.

Under the law, the Maldives Bureau of Statistics is administered by the Chief Statistician on the advice of the Minister of Finance.

Consequently, the Minister of Finance is accountable to the People's Majlis regarding matters concerning the bureau.
