Malé City Council has commenced painting double yellow lines to curb illegal parking at street corners across the capital.

The City Council stated yesterday that practical operations began yesterday in line with its decision to resolve severe traffic congestion caused by vehicles parking on street corners.

Under this initiative, no-parking zones were demarcated at corners along alleys connected to Fulooniyaa Magu, where double yellow lines were painted to designate no-parking areas, the City Council confirmed.

"Work was carried out to paint double yellow lines to indicate that these areas are strictly no-parking zones," the council stated.

Commenting on the initiative, Mayor of Malé City Adam Azim noted that vehicles parked at intersections heavily congest the streets. The Mayor highlighted that once demarcated with yellow lines, parking in those zones is strictly prohibited.

This undertaking by Malé City Council is an effort to make the city's streets safer and more navigable for both pedestrians and motorists. The council stated that line-marking operations will continue across various parts of Malé going forward.
