As the People’s Majlis entered recess on August 26 following the conclusion of this year’s second session, work on 24 bills has been completed across the two sessions of the year, the People’s Majlis Administration has stated.

Due to important legislative business, both the first and second sessions of Parliament this year were conducted by extending their scheduled terms.

According to statistics released by the Majlis Administration, although parliamentary regulations stipulate that Parliament should conclude its first session and go into recess on May 16, numerous pending matters led to extending the first session until May 31, during which work on 10 bills was concluded.

Consequently, sittings for the second session commenced on June 1 without taking a recess after the first session. Following an extension of the second session, Parliament went into recess on August 26, having completed work on 14 bills during that term.

With the conclusion of both sessions, work on 23 bills currently remains pending in Parliament. Among these, 21 bills are in the committee review stage, while two remain on the Majlis floor.

Key legislation passed this year includes the amendment bill to the Decentralization Act, the Human Organ Transplant Bill, the amendment bill to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, the amendment bill to the Foreign Exchange Act, the new Land Transport Act, and the new Uninhabited Islands and Lagoons Leasing Act.

Parliamentary statistics also indicate that during the first session, work was concluded on two resolutions, 13 government-submitted matters, and two member-submitted motions. In the second session, Parliament finalized four resolutions, 17 government-submitted matters, two member-submitted motions, and two petitions.

Additionally, across the first two sessions this year, work was completed on 96 questions submitted by parliamentarians to cabinet ministers, leaving 59 ministerial questions pending.

Out of 215 total matters submitted to the People's Majlis, work on 106 matters has been fully concluded, leaving 109 matters pending across various stages as Parliament entered recess.
