Asset Recovery Commission has ordered Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to halt refunding those who had paid to purchase a housing unit with SeaLife, due to an ongoing investigation.
President of the commission, Ahmed Assad revealed to 'One Online' that due to an ongoing investigation into the matter by the commission, they have ordered to put a halt on refunding those who were scammed by SeaLife till a decision is reached by the commission.
However, Assad did not reveal any further details of the case that the commission was investigating. He however, added that the investigation was initiated as per their responsibilities.
Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) is also currently investigating cases related to SeaLife as well. One of this includes the deposit of USD 15,000 to the bank account of former President Abdulla Yameen.
HDC issued a statement yesterday revealing that the victims of the scandal signed an agreement with HDC and the government to resolve the issue, as they have filed a case to the Civil Court to recover the booking fee and downpayment paid by over 203 people to purchase units from the 3,000 units that SeaLife was developing in Hulhumale.
The agreement noted that even though the government and HDC were not at fault in said case, it is being established to minimize the damages suffered by those who were scammed by the company.
HDC highlighted that they have agreed to refund the same amount paid by them to SeaLife, in addition to a housing unit from a housing scheme of choice by the government in damages.
