President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has walked from Malé to Vilimalé on the Thilamalé Bridge as construction of the major connectivity project continues.

The President made the first journey across the completed Malé-Vilimalé section today after the two sides were connected by the bridge’s superstructure.

He also reviewed the progress of the project and provided instructions to expedite the remaining works.

The 6.7-kilometre Thilamalé Bridge project will connect Malé, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi. The Government aims to complete the project by the end of next year.

According to the Housing Ministry, 74.9 per cent of the project has been completed. Of the 1,222 segments required for the bridge deck, 90.4 per cent have been cast and 72.9 per cent installed.

The USD 500 million project is being implemented with USD 100 million in grant assistance and a USD 400 million line of credit from the Government of India.
