Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih left office after ruining the nation, and the current administration is engaged in the work of rebuilding the country, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated.

Speaking on an MMTV program last night, the Vice President stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has taken key national decisions to protect the interests of citizens and businesses. Among these, he highlighted the decision made at the request of the PNC Parliamentary Group to bring an end to the dollar shortage and the lack of US dollar circulation in the national economy.

He stated that, much like taking action on illicit narcotics, this was a visionary political decision that previous leaders lacked the resolve to practically tackle, yet one that will benefit Maldivian citizens and businesses. The Vice President added that even if this decision diminishes gains previously enjoyed by certain individuals, the utmost priority must be placed on safeguarding the nation's independence and sovereignty, while securely preserving its language and culture for future generations.

Criticizing the economic policies of the previous MDP administration, the Vice President stated that the former government suspended the law to print money despite pleas from citizens and the then-opposition not to do so. He also noted that senior MDP figures at the time had spoken out against it. He stated that this led to an uncontrollable dollar exchange rate, pushing the country toward bankruptcy, depleting national reserves to the brink of compromising state sovereignty, and necessitating the mortgaging of schools and hospitals.

The Vice President noted that when the current administration assumed office, the country's social fabric was frayed and family ties had deteriorated. However, he stated that President Muizzu is patiently carrying out nation-building efforts, settling public debts without burdening citizens, and reclaiming mortgaged state properties. Furthermore, he noted that the President sets a noble example by treating political opponents with respect and working without personal animosity.

The Vice President stated that President Muizzu's efforts to restore order to national affairs and deliver essential public services will ensure his name is etched in history.
