Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has praised President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, stating that he exemplifies the standard of a true national leader.
Speaking on an MMTV program tonight, the Vice President stated that the President’s decision to resolve the lack of US dollar circulation in the economy is a visionary and sound political move. He noted that this decision, made at the request of the PNC Parliamentary Group, was something previous leaders lacked the resolve to practically implement. He added that former administrations had similarly shied away from decisively addressing the illicit drug crisis.
Highlighting that businesses cannot be safeguarded without first protecting national independence and sovereignty, the Vice President stated that the President places high priority on preserving the nation's language and culture for future generations.
Criticizing the previous administration's policies, the Vice President stated that under MDP's rule, the suspension of the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the indiscriminate printing of money brought the nation to the brink of bankruptcy. He noted that during COVID-19, the then-opposition, business community, and even current MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed had pleaded against money creation. However, he noted that instead of heeding these calls, the previous government mortgaged public hospitals and schools.
Furthermore, noting the fraying of the country's social fabric and the weakening of family ties, the Vice President stated that the President is working to rebuild the nation and cultivate a resilient new generation. Rather than engaging in personal hostility or malice toward political opponents, the President demonstrates patience and sets a noble example, he said.
The Vice President added that through these ongoing efforts, the President is steadily navigating the country out of its debt obligations without burdening the public, assuring that history will accord him a distinguished place.
