The world’s first all-female student satellite project, "Mission ShakthiSAT", held at Gautam Buddha University in India, has set a world record for the highest number of participating countries.

A Maldivian student is participating in the project, which commenced on the 23rd of this month, to represent the Maldives.

According to Women in Management (WIM), representing the Maldives in the program running through August 31 is Aminath Noya Sameeh, a student at Villa International High School. Noya achieved first place nationally in the most recent O-Level examinations. Passionate about science and computer technology, Noya aspires to pursue a future career in computer science, WIM stated.

Accompanying Noya on the trip as the Maldivian ambassador is WIM President Minha Faiz Rashad. The trip received support from Sosun Fihaara and Centurion.

Mission ShakthiSAT is a training initiative aimed at young women from India and 108 other nations to build the "ShakthiSAT-LEO" and "ShakthiSAT-Moon" satellites. WIM noted that during the first phase of the project, students completed online coursework covering core space engineering concepts. In the ongoing second phase, selected students from each country participate in hands-on assembly and payload integration of the satellite.

With over 12,000 students participating in the broader program, the satellite developed under this mission is scheduled for launch on October 11. Additionally, WIM stated that these students will also participate in the development of a CubeSat scheduled to be launched into lunar orbit next year.
