The Maldives contingent traveling to the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, will consist of 81 members, the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has said.

MOC told "One Sports" that the Maldives will compete in seven sports this time: athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, table tennis, swimming, shooting, and surfing. The Maldivian contingent includes 42 athletes across these seven sports alongside 18 officials. The remainder of the contingent comprises media personnel, the MOC delegation, medical staff, and officials from the Ministry of Sports.

Running from the 19th of next month to October 4, the Games are estimated to feature a total of 11,000 athletes and 6,000 officials. The Asian Games is the largest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics.

Although there were prior concerns regarding accommodation for this edition of the Games, the Games Organising Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have stated that the issue has now been resolved.

Accommodation for the Maldivian swimming squad has been arranged in Tokyo, where their competitions will take place. Athletes competing in the remaining sports will stay in Nagoya.

Organizers had initially planned for 15,000 participants; however, higher-than-expected numbers raised questions over accommodation arrangements.

With the issue resolved, the Aichi-Nagoya Organising Committee decided to provide lodging across selected hotels, temporary timber facilities, and aboard the berthed cruise ship Costa Serena. Japan had previously decided against constructing a dedicated Athletes' Village as seen in past editions. Approximately 5,000 people are expected to be housed on the cruise ship.

The Asian Games was last held in 2023 in Hangzhou, China. That edition was originally scheduled for 2022 but was postponed due to COVID-19.
