Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has called for stronger international action to enforce international law against Israel amid its continued actions in Palestine.

Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Iruthisham condemned Israel’s ongoing attempts to assert control over Palestinian territory.

She stressed that OIC member states have a responsibility to uphold the principles of the Islamic Ummah and called for greater efforts to find a solution to the Palestinian issue.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Maldives’ continued support for the Palestinian people’s rights and justice, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

She also called for the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict as a pathway towards a lasting peace.

The OIC comprises 57 member states and has consistently advocated for Palestinian rights. The Maldives joined the organisation in 1976 and has remained an active member.
