A woman has died following a gas leak incident inside a residence in Malé.

Police stated that a report was received at approximately 10:34 AM today indicating that two individuals were found in critical condition inside a residence located on Dilkushaa Goalhi.

Hospital authorities confirmed that of the two individuals, the victim transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has passed away. The deceased has been identified as Zahidha Thaufeeq (51), registered under Dhaftharu No. RS 6210 / Malé.

It is understood that the two individuals affected in the incident were Zahidha and her 19-year-old daughter. The incident took place in a first-floor apartment of the building on Dilkushaa Goalhi.

The 19-year-old woman is currently receiving medical treatment inside the hyperbaric chamber at ADK Hospital.

According to area residents, a young child also resided in the apartment with the two women and was heard crying out for help. Neighbors reported the incident to the police after noticing a strong smell of gas. Further details regarding the incident are not yet available.
