Author and translator Abdulla Farooq Hassan, who has made significant contributions to Maldivian literature and journalism, has donated a selection of his authored and published books to the Maldives National University (MNU) Library.

According to MNU, these include key titles he has written on Islamic history, education, and social issues. Farooq has rendered distinguished services in providing Maldivian readers with knowledge on Islamic history and ethics.

MNU expressed its gratitude to Farooq for the donation, stating that the books will further enrich the university's library collection.

Last week, Farooq released and began commercial sales of his book "Umar Thani: Umar bin Abdul Aziz", which chronicles the state of the Islamic world when the first Mujaddid of the Ummah, Amir al-Mu'minin Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, assumed leadership.

Some of the awards received by Farooq Hassan include:

  • National Award of Recognition for services in translating books into the Dhivehi language (1985)
  • National Award of Recognition in recognition of services to Maldivian literature (1990)
  • National Award of Honour for long-standing valuable contributions to Maldivian literature (2004)
  • The Diamond Pen of Journalism Award in recognition of outstanding national service in journalism (2018)
