Ninety percent of the subgrade repair work on Segment 1 of Ameenee Magu has been completed, project contractor Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated.

MTCC stated today that the remaining work on Segment 1 of Ameenee Magu will be completed before the end of the day.

"Following that, we will begin Aggregate Base Course (ABC) works," MTCC said.

MTCC commenced repair work on the first segment of the road on the 3rd of this month to fix damaged sections of Ameenee Magu. The project was awarded to MTCC on June 15.

Completed in January 2024 by the previous administration at a cost of MVR 84.4 million, this 1.79-kilometer stretch of Ameenee Magu has suffered severe damage, with asphalt bulging and deteriorating across several areas. The condition is particularly poor on the western side of the road, which experts attribute to heavy vehicles driving on the surface before the asphalt had properly cured.

In addition to road repairs, the project involves redesigning the pavement around bus stop locations. To facilitate this work, the stretch from Izzudheen Magu in front of Voice of Maldives to the park near Dharumavantha Hospital was closed starting from 12:00 midnight on August 2.

With this change, buses on this route will not stop at the Social Centre, IGMH, and Dharumavantha Hospital bus stops until work on Segment 1 is completed. Furthermore, the Route 11 bus service has been temporarily suspended until Segment 1 works conclude, while the final destination in Malé for Route 1, Route 3, Route 7, and Route 15 has been designated as the Maafannu Bus Terminal, MTCC stated.
