Discussions held during the "SIDS Global Business Network Forum 2026" and the "Island Investment Forum" must be converted into practical, actionable results, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has stated.

In a post on X today, Minister Saeed highlighted that during the forum inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldives emphasized its key developmental priorities. Specifically, the nation reaffirmed its commitment to driving sustainable investment, bolstering resilience, and fostering inclusive economic growth across Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Expressing pride in the contributions of local panelists, the Minister noted that Maldivian experts shared key insights across various sectors, including financial facilitation, resilient tourism, private sector-led growth, digitalization, and artificial intelligence (AI). Maldivian products and enterprises were also showcased throughout the event.

Highlighting the constructive dialogue, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities generated over the course of the forum, Saeed expressed gratitude to the United Nations, participating SIDS nations, and all attendees, noting that the immediate priority is to shift from discussions to physical implementation.

Aimed at addressing the economic challenges facing small island nations and expanding the role of the private sector and civil society in sustainable investment, the biennial forum was held over three days starting last Sunday at the Barceló Nasandhura Hotel, marking the 10th anniversary of the network's establishment.
