Today’s scheduled sitting of the People’s Majlis has been cancelled.

Concluding yesterday's session, Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla had announced that a sitting would take place today.

However, today’s sitting was called off without parliament disclosing a reason for the cancellation.

The cancellation comes after the current session was extended through Thursday to conclude important pending legislative work, marking the second time the session has been extended during this term.

Under parliamentary standing orders, the second session of the Majlis runs from June 1 to August 15.

However, citing significant pending work that needed to be completed, parliament had previously voted on August 12 to extend the term until August 20, before extending it further to Thursday.
