President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Aishath Azima Shakoor as Principal Secretary to the President on National Territory and Sovereignty, with ministerial rank.

Azima is an experienced lawyer who has held several senior positions in the Government and State. She was the Maldives’ first female Comptroller General and has served in the Cabinet during three presidential administrations.

She has also served as a Member of the People’s Majlis and as a member of the Special Majlis appointed by the President to draft the Constitution.

Azima holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of London and a Master of Laws from the University of Western Australia. She has more than 30 years of experience in the legal profession, with expertise in governance, constitutional matters, legal reform and legal research.

She has also been actively involved in social initiatives, including efforts to promote women’s rights and provide legal assistance to victims of sexual and domestic violence.
