The General Purpose Committee of Parliament has unanimously approved a proposed budget of MVR 227 million for Parliament for 2027.
The proposed allocation is MVR 1 million higher than this year’s MVR 226 million budget, mainly due to increased costs for renovations and meeting-related materials.
Committee Chair and Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid said the proposed budget does not include salary increases, new positions or new allowances.
The Parliament Secretariat said three projects are planned under the New Policy Initiative next year: installing a new lift at the Parliament building, establishing a security and waiting room, and improving ventilation in the portico corridor.
The budget proposal was submitted by Hulhudhoo MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed and seconded by Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Riza.
The proposed budget will now be put to a vote in Parliament.
