A 1.2-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed in B. Eydhafushi has been officially inaugurated.
The facility was inaugurated by Environment Minister Ali Shareef during a ceremony held yesterday as part of his official visit to Baa Atoll.
According to the Ministry of Environment, the commissioning of the Eydhafushi hybrid power system—which integrates 1.2 MW of solar PV with a 1.7 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)—marks a significant milestone for sustainability under the ARISE (Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy) project.
The system will enable the island to shut down its diesel generators for four hours daily. Following this milestone, other islands participating in the ARISE project will be interconnected soon, contributing an additional 11 MW of solar PV capacity to the national grid.
