The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint Mohamed Nishath (Reel Manzil, GA. Kanduhulhudhoo) and Aasiya Azeema (Rosevilla, R. Hulhudhuffaaru) as judges of the Civil Court.

JSC stated today that during its meeting held last Saturday, the decision was made based on interview recommendations following an announcement opened on June 21 seeking candidates for the vacancies on the Civil Court bench.

Nishath holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Master of Laws from the Maldives National University.

Having served as the Chief Magistrate of the GA. Kanduhulhudhoo Magistrate Court since October 30, 2025, Nishath brings over 15 years of experience in positions across the legal and judicial sector.

His legal career includes serving as Deputy State Attorney at the Attorney General's Office, Investigation Officer, Legal Officer, and Senior Legal Officer at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), as well as General Counsel and Secretary General of the Bar Council of the Maldives.

Aasiya Azeema holds a Bachelor of Shariah and Law (Honours) from the Maldives National University and a Master of Laws from the University of Birmingham.

Aasiya previously served as Legal Officer and Deputy Director of Legal Affairs at the People's Majlis from August 27, 2014 to February 28, 2021.
