The People’s Majlis has approved extending the second session of this year until 20 August.
At today’s sitting, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah said the second session was originally scheduled to end on 15 August under the Majlis Rules of Procedure. However, the session was extended due to important pending work.
The extension was approved by a majority vote, with 58 of the 59 members present voting in favour.
Under Article 83 of the Constitution, parliamentary sittings are divided into three sessions each year. The first session runs from 1 February to 15 May, the second from 1 June to 15 August, and the third from 1 October to the end of November.
The Majlis has the authority to extend a session through a vote. Earlier this year, the first session was also extended until 31 May.
