Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that over MVR 3 million has been received so far this year through endowment and donation links established on the MIRA website to support and develop the Waqf Fund.
In details shared on the Islamic Ministry's Viber group yesterday, the Minister noted that the funds are utilized for purposes specified in the Waqf Fund's trust statement, in accordance with established Waqf Fund regulations.
The government has decided to expand Waqf projects across various regions of the country, with initiatives planned for Malé, Hulhumalé, Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and GA. Vilingili.
Physical work on "Darul Arqam," a new Waqf building developed in Malé under these initiatives, commenced on the 7th of this month.
Carried out with financing assistance from BML Islamic, the project was awarded to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) to be completed within 540 days.
According to the Ministry, Darul Arqam will be a 12-story building featuring multiple facilities, including parking in the basement and ground floor, a reception on the first floor, and a conference hall on the second floor.
Once operational, the building is projected to generate over MVR 10 million in annual revenue. The Ministry noted that 20 percent of this revenue will be allocated to the Zakat House, with the remaining 80 percent deposited into the Islamic Waqf Fund.
