Preparations are complete to commence the 6th Maldives Marine Science Symposium tomorrow.

This year's Marine Science Symposium is being held jointly by the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI).

In an announcement, MNU stated that the main objective of the symposium, scheduled to take place from tomorrow through the following day at the university's Central Auditorium, is to publish research related to marine life and facilitate information exchange among experts in the field.

MNU noted that as this is the only conference in this field held in the Maldives, it represents a valuable opportunity for researchers and industry experts.

A total of 47 research studies are scheduled to be presented at this year's symposium, including 32 oral presentations and 15 poster presentations.

The papers presented at the symposium are categorized into seven main thematic areas, including reefs and reef restoration, climate change, and fisheries.

Additionally, research covering governance and society, sea turtles, health and safety, sharks, rays, and other marine megafauna, as well as coastal ecosystems and seabirds, will be presented at the event.

During the symposium, universities and research organizations will share their work and engage in discussions aimed at further strengthening the sector in the future.

The Marine Science Symposium has been held biennially since 2016.
