The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has spent more than MVR 13.48 million to clear waste dumped around the Fahi flats in Hulhumalé Phase II.

FDC published a breakdown of the costs on Sunday, revealing that MVR 13,481,557.15 has been spent on waste collection from the area since residents moved in.

The expenditure includes:

  • MVR 8.45 million from October last year to the end of March this year
  • MVR 75,100 in April
  • MVR 4.95 million from May to the end of June

FDC said a total of 5,040 tonnes of waste has been removed from the area so far.

The corporation attributed the high cost to the improper disposal of different types of waste in public spaces, which has significantly increased the expense of cleaning and maintaining the area.

FDC urged residents to dispose of waste responsibly to help reduce public spending and maintain a cleaner living environment.

Residents began moving into the Fahi flats in September last year.
