A floating bar operating off K. Maafushi ran aground and sank on Friday morning after being battered by rough seas caused by adverse weather.
The vessel, named Princess Laala, was pushed onto a reef by strong waves before sinking within about 10 minutes, according to local reports.
Police said they received a report of the incident at 10:15 a.m. Six people were on board at the time, and all were safely evacuated with no injuries reported.
Videos shared on social media showed several people jumping into the sea after the vessel struck the reef.
The Maldives Meteorological Service earlier issued a yellow alert, forecasting winds of up to 50 miles per hour. The Met Office said the deteriorating weather was caused by a low-pressure trough associated with the south-west monsoon and warned that adverse conditions are expected to continue across much of the Maldives over the next two days.
