Native palm trees have been planted along a section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu as work to upgrade the road nears completion.

The trees were planted today in the area between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Official Jetty after road surfacing works were completed. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) finished laying asphalt on the stretch earlier this month.

Final preparations, including cleaning the newly paved road, are now underway before the road is reopened to the public on 26 July.

The project also includes replanting trees removed during construction. Native Maldivian trees have now been planted in the area as part of the landscaping works.

The redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is expected to provide a wider, more pedestrian-friendly roadway with dedicated parking areas. The project has attracted public attention over the removal of trees during construction and the choice of trees being replanted.
