The Malé City Council has decided to arrange venue space free of charge for island councils whenever they wish to meet residents of their respective islands living in Malé City.

The Malé City Council reached this decision during its 9th official general meeting held today.

Presenting the proposal, Mayor Adam Azim stated that while a large number of residents from various constituencies reside in the Malé area, island councils face difficulties in securing venues to meet them. The Mayor noted that facilitating opportunities for island councils to meet their constituents, given the large population from various islands living in Malé City, will strengthen ties between both parties.

The Mayor also said that in addition to arranging vacant spaces under the council's jurisdiction for meetings, providing hospitality such as refreshments is an effort towards making Malé City an exemplary city in hospitality.

The proposal was seconded by Deputy Mayor of Malé City, Meekail Mohamed Riyaz.

Speaking at the meeting, Maafannu West Constituency Councillor Rilwan Ali said that it was a very good decision and that, given the large number of island residents living in Malé, it would bring them great satisfaction. Additionally, Galolhu South Constituency Councillor Ismail Haleem stated that it is important to carry this out under a robust policy.

The Malé City Council passed this important decision unanimously with the consensus of all councillors present at the meeting.

Malé City Council said that this decision will further strengthen relations between island councils and the Malé City Council, in addition to making it easier for residents living in Malé City and their councils to connect and communicate.
