The People's National Congress (PNC) has accepted responsibility for damage caused to Kamil Didi Preschool in Hulhumalé during the party's internal election vote count on July 11.

A confrontation broke out between representatives of candidates while votes for the Hulhumalé North constituency were being counted. Videos shared on social media showed chairs being thrown during the incident.

The unrest caused damage to school property, including a glass panel on a door and buttons on the sound system mixer.

Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said PNC has assured the government that it will cover the cost of repairing the damage.

Police arrested three people in connection with the incident last week. The suspects remain in custody under court orders while the investigation continues.
